I'm bolting my Japanese car back up and my 10MM socket decides to disappear. Took 20 min to find it. And the previous owner overfilled the radiator. And my car is still overheating. And I don't think it's the fan clutch because the fan is spinning fine. Maybe thermostat?
Anyways, have a fiero with Z32 lights. And JCCS is tomorrow, so yay!

I hate how good that looks. It makes me mad. It should not be but there it is.

In what way is it overheating? Is it like afterboil? If so something as dumb as the radiator cap just needs to be replaced.

Yes overheating. What's afterboil?

Thermostat or water pump would be the place to look, I think.

I know the feels. I used to have a Fiero GT, and for every good thing about it, there were 17 terrible.

That, that actually looks cool.

Like you are driving around and the car is perfectly fine but you stop and turn it off and then it starts overheating. Usually you will hear boiling when it's parked.
My Skyline did this and I spent all kind of ridiculous money trying to fix the overheating issue when it was just needing a new radiator cap.

What sort of car, and have you had the cooling system flushed lately?

Over full radiator? The overflow tank should have a vent hole in it. As long as that is clear, if the coolant "bubbles over" it should spew the excess out that. My Magnum did it when I brought it to my girlfriends house the first time. Parked it nose down on their driveway, and it scared the crap out of me because of how overfull it was.
Could be stuck thermostat or the wrong pressure cap. Could also be the wrong coolant. Are you sure your water pump still has an impeller?

Also one thing you didn't mention was the waterpump, you might want to check that out. The belt maybe could be bad, the pump could be rusted, etc.

Water pump. Had a Nissan Sentra back in the day that overheated. Finally tracked it down to a disintegrated water pump impeller.

300ZX, nope, but it's clear and there's no air in the system.

That's all you can do on that front. I am far enough away from all of this to remember what a stuck thermostat does, but that could be it. And it's a cheap fix, just don't break the housing (like I did on a couple old Volvos). If it's holding coolant and not leaking ... dunno, replace some hoses that might be partially blocked? Replace them prophylactically (before they start leaking)? Eh, I'm rambling ....

You're working on a Japanese car and only have ONE 10mm socket?

That is a really cool Fiero! I would still rather a 300zx over it but hey...

My Soarer did this and I replaced the radiator cap twice hoping and praying that was the only problem. Also replaced the thermostat (twice) and the radiator (which needed to be done even if it wasn't the problem). Of course it was the head gasket in the end.
Oh, and I almost forgot, replaced the fan clutch too.

Came here to say this. You can never have too many 10's and 12's. Especially if you ever want to have 2 people working at once.
